IBU announces Pilot Second Level Course

After implementing the Basic and First Level Courses of the Coach Education Program, the IBU now announces the Pilot Second Level Course which will start in September 2023.

The IBU Coach Education Program consists of 4 levels: Basic, First, Second, and Third Level. The Second Level Course consists of 3 times of 5 days of education and 200 hours in total. The first week will be held in Oberhof (GER) from 23-27 September 2023. The second and third weeks will be held at the beginning of April 2024 in Norway and at the end of June 2024 in Antholz (ITA).

Well-known experts and coaches in the fields of biathlon and sports science will present their knowledge to a maximum of 20 coaches who will be nominated by the National Federations. Theoretical and practical lessons on the topics of skiing, shooting, exercise physiology, equipment, coaches´ soft skills, the business of sport, psychology, nutrition, recovery & prevention, biathlon performance, and applied training science will be part of this pilot course. Parts of the education will be held online via the IBU E-Learning Platform “Learning Suite”.

The requirements for the Second Level Course are:

  • Completion of IBU First Level Course or equivalent;

  • Coaching athletes with a minimum of five (5) years on a national level;

  • Sports university or equivalent education;

  • Desire and aptitude for coaching, with a passion for helping and supporting others;

  • English is spoken and written at an intermediate level (B1), possibly with a translator present;

The application deadline for the Pilot Second Level course is 30 April 2023.
