Guy and Gautero win YOG sprint gold

Antonin Guy and Carlotta Gautero are the Sprint Youth Olympic Champions in Gangwon. For Guy, it is the third gold medal in as many competitions. Gautero had previously been a silver medalist in the Youth Women Relay at last year's Youth Junior World Championships in Shchuchinsk.

With his victory in the Sprint, Guy has become the first biathlete to win three gold medals at Youth Olympic Games.

"I got that information yesterday and I thought about it before going to sleep and I told myself that it’s possible to win another gold medal and make history. It’s a bit impressive and I’m very happy. Today I was focused on my race. At the beginning, I thought I can win another race, and at the finish line I saw that I was in the first position. I’m really happy."

Silver went to Tov Roeysland of Norway, who bounced back from breaking a pole on the last loop while bronze went to France's Flavio Guy (not related to gold medalist Antonin).

Carlotta Gautero emerged victorious in the Youth Women Sprint, claiming the second biathlon medal for Italy in Gangwon.

“Yesterday I didn’t feel very well so I’m happy that this morning I felt very good and I’m very proud of myself and my race because the conditions were not very easy, but I’m very happy.”

Slovenia's Ela Sever and Ukraine's Polina Putsko won the first biathlon medals for their countries at the YOG 2024.

Tomorrow's Mixed Relay concludes the biathlon competitions at the Alpensia biathlon venue.
