Otepää to host Summer Biathlon World Championships 2024

After last week’s 167th IBU Executive Board Meeting in Anif b. Salzburg (AUT), the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships 2024 has been awarded to Otepää (EST). Additionally, the 2023/2024 competition calendar for the IBU Cup has been completed with provisional start times. The BMW IBU World Cup competition calendar for 2023/2024 had already been announced in April.

The upcoming IBU Cup season is scheduled to begin in Kontiolahti (FIN) on 30 November 2023 and will finish after 9 events in Obertilliach (AUT), with the Open European Championships in Brezno-Osrblie (SVK) as the series’ highlight – the full competition calendar can be viewed here.

The IBU Junior Cup kicks off in Pokljuka (SLO) on 05 December 2023 and concludes with its flagship event, the IBU Youth/Junior World Championships 2024 in Otepää (EST). Competition times will be added in the near future. Notschrei (GER) and Jakuszycze (POL) are first-time stops for any IBU Competition series and will take place right after the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon (KOR) in January.

In addition to the Youth Junior World Championships, Otepää (EST) will be hosting the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships from 19 – 25 August 2024 next year. Previously, the Estonian Biathlon Federation had already been successful in its bid for the BMW IBU World Championships Biathlon to take place in Otepää in 2027.

This year's Summer Biathlon World Championships will take place in Brezno-Osrblie (SVK) from 24 - 27 August 2023.
