Franziska Preuss calls it a season

After several physical setbacks in the last 12 months, Franziska Preuss has decided to wrap up her season early and will consequently miss the home World Championships in Oberhof next month.

German Ski Federation DSV announced Preuss will not be competing in the remaining two months of the 2022/23 season earlier on Monday in a press release. The 28-year-old was forced to sit out the World Cup weeks in Kontiolahti, Pokljuka and her home venue Ruhpolding and only returned to competitions this past week in Antholz. "After the two competitions in Antholz, I decided to finish the season early. Due to my current health and physical condition, I'm simply not able to deliver the performances that would help our team at the World Championships in Oberhof", Preuss said on Monday. "My body has simply not been cooperating for the past year or so. As a result, I'll now take a break to recover physically and mentally. Dealing with all these physical setbacks time and time again is incredibly exhausting and not so easy to process." Preuss described the decision to sit out a home World Championships as one of the most difficult of her career. The focus is now on getting healthy and being able to attack again in training this spring. Picture: Thibaut/IBU
