IBU-IOC SUMMER CAMP IN ANTHOLZ

Last week the IBU organized this year’s IBU-IOC Summer Camp in Antholz, Italy. 18 male and 16 female athletes and 12 male and 5 female coaches from 18 different national federations joined together for 7 days of intense training.

Under the supervision of Mathias Ahrens (Canada) and Martina Seidl (formerly Zellner) (Germany) and supported by several coaches, who are currently in the IBU Coach Education, a well-balanced training week was offered. As a special guest, the IBU was happy to welcome France’s Ex-Biathlete and Olympic Champion Anais Bescond who joined the camp as an Athlete Role Model:

It is really nice to be able to share my experiences with all the athletes and train together at such a beautiful venue, which will be hosting the next Olympic Winter Games. I think such camps really help the athletes to chase their dreams and to develop even further.

Besides the practical training sessions, interesting talks about different aspects of biathlon complemented the program during the evenings. Anais Bescond shared her knowledge and experience as an Olympic Champion, Gerold Sattlecker discussed the latest research about shooting in biathlon and its implementation into practice, and Lucie Rothauer and Katharina Gatterer (Biathlon Integrity Unit) talked about Anti-Doping and Safeguarding.

The camp culminated with a mixed relay competition, a chance to show off new-found and improved skills. The winners were Mine Kilic and Abdurahim Duman from Turkey.

The IBU wants to address special thanks for the great support through the Olympic Solidarity Grant from the International Olympic Committee and to the Organizing Committee in Antholz for providing a perfectly prepared venue.
