IBU-IOC and IBU-IPC Summer Camp 2025: Growing Together in Lillehammer

The amazing surroundings of Lillehammer, Norway, played host to this year’s IBU-IOC and IBU-IPC Summer Camp from 29th June to 5th July, bringing together 52 athletes from 18 National Federations. In a unique spirit of inclusion and collaboration, the camp united first time Biathlon and Para Biathlon athletes and coaches for a week of training, learning, and community building.

For many young athletes, this camp has been important milestone in their biathlon journey and chance to exchange knowledge, improve their skills, and form friendships across borders.

Throughout the week, the athletes trained side by side, supported by an experienced team of IBU Instructors: Knut Kuvas Brevik (NOR), Håvard Bogetveit (NOR), Kristina Dale-Skjevdal (NOR), Anders Øverby (NOR), and Andrine Overland (NOR).

Para Biathlon athletes benefited from the expertise of IBU Para Instructors Simon Allansson (GBR) and Anaïs Bescond (FRA).

The program focused not only on physical preparation, but also on mental skills, shooting techniques, and biathlon-specific education, all within the supportive environment Lillehammer is known for.

The camp was further strengthened by the valuable support of the Lillehammer Olympic Legacy Sports Centre, which ensured excellent training conditions and organization for all participants.

A highlight of the week was the mixed relay event, where Para and Olympic biathletes teamed up and competed together, creating an inspiring and truly inclusive experience for everyone involved.

IBU Biathlon Head Coach Knut Kuvås Brevik summed up the spirit of the week:

“It’s really fun to see so many dedicated athletes and coaches. I believe camps like this help raise the level of knowledge in biathlon and contribute to further development in the participating nations. It’s also great to see how PARA has been included in the camp and is training alongside able-bodied athletes. I’m absolutely sure the camp is creating new friendships and contributing to the growth of the biathlon family.”

For the Para Biathlon community, the camp marked another important step forward. Para Biathlon Head Coach Simon Allansson shared:

“It’s been fantastic to see so many athletes take part in the second IBU Para Biathlon training camp, held in collaboration with both the Paralympic and Olympic squads. The IBU is making significant strides in professionalizing Para Biathlon across all levels, creating more opportunities and support for athletes. A big thank you to the Norwegian Biathlon Federation for their outstanding efforts in organizing such a well-run and impactful camp.”

As the athletes return home, they bring with them not just improved skills but new ideas and fresh motivation for the coming season. The IBU remains committed to supporting the development of young biathletes and para biathletes alike, ensuring that the biathlon family continues to grow stronger, together.
