Simon Eder and Lena Haecki-Gross elected to IBU Athletes' Committee

Over 300 athletes were asked to cast their vote to elect two biathletes to serve on the IBU Athletes’ Committee (AC). The following two athletes were elected to serve for a four-year term:

Simon Eder (AUT)

Lena Haecki-Gross (SUI)

A total of 5 candidates (four women and one men) stood for election, which was conducted via a digital voting system during the BMW World Cup Oslo Holmenkollen from 27 February to 3 March. The voting was open to all athletes who have competed in the BMW IBU World Cup in at least one of the first two trimesters during the 2023-2024 season, or at the BMW IBU World Championships Biathlon 2024 in Nové Město na Moravě. Of the two new members elected, one had to be female and the other could be male or female.

Clare Egan, outgoing Chair of the IBU Athletes Committee and representative to the IBU Executive Board since 2018, said:

“Congratulations to Simon Eder and Lena Haecki-Gross on becoming members of the IBU Athletes Committee. I wish all committee members all the best in their future efforts to make the athletes voice heard and would like to thank my colleagues, who have worked with me in the past six years.

Together, we have built a communication network of athletes from almost 50 national federations and increased the annual athlete prize money by nearly 5 million euros.

But most importantly, through representation in the IBU Executive Board with full voting rights, the athletes voice is heard and athletes matters are taken seriously in biathlon’s consultation and decision processes.”

The Athletes’ Committee was recently expanded to five members and with current Chair Clare Egan standing down there were two spots available. Remaining members of the Athletes’ Committee are Johannes Kühn (GER), Sebastian Samuelsson (SWE), and Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (NOR). The current members' term continues until 2026 as they were elected for four years in 2022.

With all AC members successfully vetted by the Biathlon Integrity Unit, the now five members of the Athletes' Committee will select the Chair of the Committee and their representative who will serve as a full voting member of the IBU Executive Board.
