Vittozzi Dominates Forni Avoltri; Hot Days in Altenberg

This weekend’s Italian and German Summer Championships found Lisa Vittozzi dominating in her home Forni Avoltri Carnia Arena, while in 32°C Altenberg, six different winners stood atop the podium.

Vittozzi Dominates in Forni Avoltri

Veterans Lukas Hofer and 2024 World Cup Total Score winner Lisa Vittozzi win Saturday’s Italian Summer Championships Sprints. Hofer with two penalties topped clean-shooting Nicola Romanin by just seven seconds. Rising star Tomasso Giacomel missed two shots like Hofer, finishing third, 14 seconds back.

Vittozzi, unchallenged in her one-penalty win, finished in 20:26. Second place Martina Trabucchi, also with one penalty finished 2:14 back. Rebecca Passler, with two penalties finished third, 2:35 back.

Following her sprint win, Vittozzi overwhelmed Sunday’s pursuit field, to say the least. The woman from just up the road in Sappada shot clean, finishing 5:30 ahead of and lapping Silver medalist Rebecca Passler, with Samuela Comola third.

On the men’s side, Giacomel after a disappointing sprint won pursuit Gold, followed by another Silver performance from Romanin. Sprint winner Hofer finished in the Bronze spot.

The Italians now head off on a well-earned 10-day vacation before the next training blocks begin.

Hot in Altenberg; Six Different Victors

Preuss and Horn

The veteran Franziska Preuss opened the weekend atop the podium in the short individual, with two penalties, taking the title in 31:51.7. Johanna Puff, also with two penalties finished 27.6 seconds back while Marion Wiesensarter with three penalties finished third, 41.8 seconds back. Philipp Horn, with a single penalty took the men’s title in 36:18.2. Justus Strelow with two penalties finished second, 1:18.9 back. and Philipp Nawrath third with three penalties, 2:27.9 back.

Sprints to Tannheimer and Fratzscher

Saturday’s sprints had two new winners. Julia Tannheimer took the women’s title, with one penalty followed 17.6 seconds later by clean-shooting Juliane Freuhwirt and one-penalty Sophia Schneider, 20.8 seconds back.

Clean-shooting Lukas Fratzscher won the men’s sprint in 23:07, followed by Horn, with two penalties, 21.8 seconds back. Roman Rees with a single miss finished third, just 2. Seconds behind Horn.

Pursuit Titlists Fichtner and Strelow

In Sunday’s pursuits, Marlene Fichtner shot clean, taking the women’s title in 31:26.3. Wiesensarter, with two penalties finished second, 14.7 seconds back and sprint winner Tannheimer third with four penalties, 28.5 seconds back.

Strelow moved up from second in the sprint, winning the pursuit in 32:09.3, with two penalties. Sprint titlist Fratzscher, with three penalties, finished second, 19.8 seconds back. Third place Horn finished 47.5 seconds back, with four penalties.
