Östersund replaces Oslo as host of the BMW IBU World Cup finals 2021

The International Biathlon Union has announced the schedule for the final three stages of the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon in March 2021.

The health and safety of all athletes and participants continue to be the primary consideration in scheduling the remaining World Cup events, especially during this dynamic pandemic situation. The final World Cups in March will also be held under the IBU’s strict hygiene concept, which has proven to be very successful throughout the season and has enabled the IBU to deliver fair and safe biathlon events. This concept, which includes frequent testing (over 10.000 tests have been conducted during this season so far), is the basis of regional health authorities approving biathlon events in their respective countries.

Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic will host the World Cup stages 8 and 9 (as scheduled from 1-14 March). Östersund, Sweden will then host the World Cup finals (15-21 March) and replace Oslo Holmenkollen, Norway. The tightening of Norwegian government regulations on entrance into the country and quarantine rules made it impossible to hold the event at Holmenkollen. The IBU will organise charter flights from the Czech Republic to Sweden.

The competition schedule and start times for Nove Mesto remain unchanged. The competition formats for the final World Cup stage remain the same but days and start times are currently under review.

For the events in Nove Mesto a special on-boarding procedure will apply for all participants in accordance with Czech national regulations. Details will follow in due course.
