International Biathlon Union announces Interim Secretary-General
The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announces Alf Koksvik, former Secretary General of the Norwegian Biathlon Federation, will take over as IBU Interim Secretary General from 1 March 2019.
Koksvik, who has extensive expertise in biathlon, will serve as Interim Secretary General until after the Extraordinary IBU Congress in September 2019. Koksvik will bring significant experience in managing successful organisations and business in and out of sport. He served as Secretary General of the Norwegian Biathlon Federation from 2000 to 2008, and in the last two years also served as Head of Sports. Before joining the federation, he worked for the Norwegian Olympic Committee. Since 2008, he has run his own consultancy company, working in leadership training, team development, and helping companies build and implement new strategies. In recent years, he has been active in building facilities for biathlon, supporting young athletes, and managing biathlon events.
IBU President Olle Dahlin commented: “We are very pleased to have someone as experienced as Alf Koksvik to serve as Interim Secretary General. I am convinced he will do an excellent job in the day-to-day running of our federation, as well as starting to develop the organisation as part of our strategic work. Alf has both a sports and marketing background and vast experience in helping organisations to develop. He will play an important role in supporting IBU’s setup for the future.”
Alf Koksvik added:
“I am thrilled to be able to support the IBU at this crucial time for the federation. I hope my experience both in biathlon and my work in leadership and team development, can help IBU build a stronger organization for the future. My focus is on the next six months and the build up to the IBU Extraordinary Congress. There is a lot of important work to be done between now and then, not least the development of the Strategic Plan. Together with the the staff at the IBU headquarters I look forward to making a contribution to our sport’s bright future.”
Koksvik has begun working from the IBU headquarters in Salzburg, Austria, this week already.
