IBU Open European Championships reallocated to Minsk-Raubichi

The IBU Open European Championships Biathlon, which originally had been allocated to Otepaeae, Estonia, have been reallocated to Minsk-Raubichi, Belarus, which will also host the IBU Cup finals a week later.

Due to the recent warm weather in Otepaeae, as well as the forecast for the upcoming days, the organisers could not guarantee the conditions required for hosting the event.

The organisers in Minsk-Raubichi and the Belarussian Ministry of Sports and Tourism have declared they are ready to take over from Otepaeae.

IBU Sports Director Felix Bitterling:

“The IBU would like to thank the organisers in Minsk-Raubichi for hosting this event on such short notice. Since Belarus is hosting the IBU Cup final shortly after, this solution is the most sustainable and cost effective for the athletes, organisers and national federations. In addition, the event is a welcome test for the organisers as the BMW IBU World Cup will take place there at the same time in March 2022. In Raubichi, currently not all loops are covered with snow, so the competition programme for the Championships and the IBU Cup had to be adjusted, including a more comprehensive programme at the IBU Cup final to limit the costs for the teams.”
