IBU adjusts Oberhof competition schedule

The International Biathlon Union has decided to change the competition schedule for the first BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon in 2021 in Oberhof, Germany. Both sprint competitions for women and men are now scheduled for Friday, 8 January 2021. All other competitions will be carried out as planned. The Women’s Sprint was originally scheduled one day earlier. The IBU decided in close cooperation with its broadcasting and marketing partners to postpone the competition to make sure that German national health regulations and IBU health protocols can be followed and to maximize the safety of all event participants.

The new competition schedule for the BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon 5 (first week) in Oberhof:

08 Jan 2021
11:30 Women 7.5km Sprint
14:15 Men 10km Sprint

09 Jan 2021
12:45 Women 10km Pursuit
14:45 Men 12.5km Pursuit

10 Jan 2021
11:30 4x6km Mixed Relay (W+M)
14:40 Single Mixed Relay (W+M)

All accredited persons for IBU events have to provide a negative SARS-CoV-2 PCR test not older than 72 hours when checking into the event bubble. They will then be tested again within 24 hours after arrival. The first trimester of the season has shown the importance of a strict on-boarding process to keep the event bubble clean. By delaying the competitions in Oberhof for one day, the IBU wants to make sure that all teams can get tested in their home countries in the New Year after the holidays and arrive in Germany with a negative test result. Moreover, the current entry legislation for Germany requires participants to show a negative SARS-CoV-2 test not older than 48 hours.
