Munich Magic for Vittozzi and Perrot

After sitting out the 2024/2025 season due to a back injury, Lisa Vittozzi returned to biathlon with renewed vigor this summer. Eric Perrot, meanwhile, continued to build on the momentum from his gold medal in the Individual at the IBU World Championships 2025 in Lenzerheide. Both shared their impressions while basking in victory at the inaugural Loop One Festival in Munich.

The Loop One Festival brought biathlon to the heart of Munich’s Olympiapark, blending sport with a festival atmosphere. What made this urban setting and vibe so special compared to traditional biathlon events?

Lisa Vittozzi: "I think an event in the city has its own charm and sparks curiosity among spectators because it’s something different from the usual.”

Eric Perrot: "The city vibe feels cool, especially in the summertime! It’s like biathlon in vacation mode."

Biathlon is often associated with snowy mountain landscapes, but the Loop One Festival transformed it into an urban spectacle. Did you feel like a sports star—or even almost like a rock star?

Lisa Vittozzi: "I felt like a sports star, especially in Germany. I always have this feeling here.”

Eric Perrot: "Still very much like a sports star.”

The festival atmosphere—with music, crowds, and a lively ambiance—must have added a different kind of energy. Did this setting change how you approached the competition, and what was the most exciting part of the experience for you?

Lisa Vittozzi: "My attitude during the race didn’t change because when I’m racing, I’m always fully focused.”

Eric Perrot: "I like to shoot fast and be aggressive on the track. I go all in, and that makes the race experience even more powerful."

The Loop One Festival aimed to make biathlon more accessible and engaging for a broader audience. As a winner, how do you think events like this can help grow the sport and attract new fans?

Lisa Vittozzi: "I think when the strongest athletes participate in these events, it has a huge impact on the public and young fans who love our sport. It’s always a beautiful spectacle to watch, and that draws people in.”

Eric Perrot: "You have to think about the show, not just performance! I love this way of presenting our sport to fans—it’s all about making it spectacular and exciting.”

What feelings will you carry into the winter from the inaugural Loop One?

Lisa Vittozzi: “I hadn’t competed with my colleagues for a long time. It was a mix of emotions, but it was really nice to be back competing like this. I fully enjoyed it.”

Eric Perrot: "Bringing the show to a city center is the best way to show people what biathlon is all about! And if they want more, they can just turn on the TV in in the winter!"
