IBU First Level Course sucessfully started

The IBU Academy launched the next step in its Coach Education Programme with the First Level Course, which was organized at the Chiemgau Arena in Ruhpolding, Germany from 22nd until 27th of May 2022. 8 female and 12 male coaches from 17 different countries started their IBU Coach Education journey. It was the first out of three weeks of face-to-face lectures that cover a big variety of aspects to become an even better biathlon coach.

After the Pilot Basic Course, which covered a solid foundation of the major aspects of coaching in biathlon, the IBU Academy offered a more advanced program and took a deep dive into theoretical and practical aspects of coaching in biathlon with its First Level Course. Already experienced coaches from the USA, Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan, and many others joined the course to learn about the theoretical background of biathlon and how to use this knowledge in their daily practice.

During this first out of three weeks, the focus was on the theory and practice of shooting and skiing and was completed by expert lectures about equipment, Anti-Doping, and coaches’ soft skills. The practical parts of the lectures were held by the IBU Educators Matthias Ahrens (CAN) and Knut Kuvas Brevik (NOR).

In the upcoming weeks, all coaches will have to complete several tasks about each topic of the course and an overall assessment, which will be provided on an E-Learning platform (IBU LearningSuite). The second and third weeks of this First Level Course will be held in Östersund/SWE (October 2022) and Jakuszyce/POL (March 2023).
