IBU successfully organised its Coach Education Pilot Basic Course

10 Women and 10 Men from 15 different nations took part in the Pilot Basic Course of the IBU Coach Education under the IBU Academy. The six-day course was organised at the Sports Center Salzburg-Rif from 03rd until 08th of April 2022 providing the students with a mix of theoretical and practical lessons about the basics of Biathlon.

The goal set by the IBU Academy for coaching education is to implement educational programmes that join theory and practice provided by international experts, encourage creativity and scholarship and foster a lifelong desire to learn and actively contribute to the global biathlon family at different professional levels from recreation to high-performance. With the organisation of the Pilot Basic Course, the starting signal of the IBU Coach Education has been taken.

During the last six days, the students had theoretical and practical lessons in the fields of skiing, shooting, motor skills training, physiology, coaches soft skills, equipment, training science and rules & organisation which have been provided by well-known experts and coaches in the fields of winter sports and sports science. The IBU was very pleased to also welcome three-times overall World Cup Total Score Winner Kaisa Mäkäräinen (FIN) to the course who started now her Coach career after retiring from biathlon as an athlete in 2020.

The course was organised by the IBU Development Department and lead by the two IBU Educators Matthias Ahrens (CAN) and Knut Kuvas Brevik (NOR) who covered most of the practical sessions with the students. Within the next weeks, the students need to complete some more online learning classes in the new developed E-Learning platform of the IBU to successfully complete the Basic course.
