Five burning questions for . . . Johannes Thingnes Boe

Motivated like never before in the summer, JT Boe put on a week-in-week-out show never seen before in biathlon. He won all eight Sprints. Johannes won seven medals at the BMW IBU World Championships Oberhof 2023, five of those Gold. He won 19 times in 2022/2023, an eye-popping stat that only man can better, and even for that man would be extremely difficult: Johannes himself. Boe summarised the 2022/2023 season with a brief but telling answers. And he has an idea of who would be an ideal caretaker for his forest in Boeberhof.

How would you describe the 2022/2023 season?

With 19 wins and seven medals from Oberhof 2023, I will simply say: Perfection.

What was the highlight of the season for you?

Winning a Gold medal in the Sprint at the BMW IBU World Championships in Oberhof and sharing the joy with Tarjei, who took a Silver.

And the most enjoyable moment of the 2022/2023 season?

There were so many! Each week in the World cup brings some unforgettable moments. I would roll them all up in a snowball. It would describe all the joy for the past four months.

It is your fourth BMW IBU World Cup Total Score title. Do you have an unwinding post-season routine that you follow?

I was so focused these last few days that I honestly don’t know. Biathlon consumes all my energy and mental focus most of the year. And it is refreshing to have a short period with no plans. To just be home and see how the day goes.

Have you found a caretaker for your forest in Boeberhof?

I think that Erik Lesser would be the best choice. He comes from the area, knows the place, and hopefully has some time in retirement.

And a bonus question: What is the first thing you will eat on Monday that you haven’t eaten the whole season?

Oh! I will eat candies and drink soda drinks and alcohol. The indulgent period will not last long as the training season starts soon enough.
