Social Wrap-up…Thinking Summer
With just a few days before the official start to summer (June 20), the biathlon social media circuit is already headed in that direction, getting a head start on summer. After weeks of lockdown, everyone is outdoors, training of course, but also enjoying the most summer-like pursuits like cool ice cream, beach visits, soaking up the sun on training days and even a bit of rain.
Lisa’s Ice Cream Break
Summer immediately comes to mind with two words: ice cream. Very appropriately, last week, Lisa Theresa Hauser stopped during a cycling tour for a quick calorie recharge and cool-off with a double dip of chocolate and berry ice cream!
Coffee on the French Riviera
Nothing says summer like, palm trees, the beach and the deep blue sea. After the French team kicked off their summer season with the first team camp of the year, Emilien Claude, his brothers and few friends went south to Le Lavandou on the French Riviera. With a week of cycling, beach runs, R and R on the Mediterranean coast, it was time for one final coffee before heading back to reality and the rigors of training.
Радость первого урожая :) Оууу дааа!!! Редисочка вышла что надо! Сочненькая! Ядрёненькая! The joy of the first harvest...Posted by Darya Domracheva on Saturday, June 13, 2020
Darya Domracheva at home in Minsk, started summer on a pleasant 20 degree morning with a short trip out to her vegetable garden on Saturday. Her big smile and, “The joy of the first harvest…The radishes came out well!” all say, ‘summer is here.’
Zum Abschluss der Woche ging es nochmal auf den Berg 🏃♂️⛰!Posted by Simon Schempp on Sunday, June 14, 2020
Simon’s Sunday Mountain Run
Of course, not everyone is at the beach as the summer solstice approaches, Simon Schempp, capped off his training week with a trail run high above Ruhpolding. Still, it was very much a summer day up in the mountains: one that called for short sleeves and sunglasses, framed by a brilliant blue sky.
Vetle: Norwegian Beach Time
Early summer in Norway, especially with the 20+ hour days can be just a pleasant as the French Riviera. Just ask Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen. Morning was the perfect time for a jumping salute to summer on the beach 150 km south of Oslo.
Johanna’s Sunny Intervals
Johanna Talihärm did a running interval workout and spent a bit of time recovering on a sunny Estonian morning, while a four-legged friend really wanted to play. A wet, but probably cooling adventure on her mountain bike wrapped up her introduction to hot summer training sessions.
Doro’s Summer “Holiday”
The Italian team ended their first training camp at Val Martello and just as quickly as it ended, Dorothea Wierer threw up her first summer photo, with the tongue-in-cheek caption, “Holidays…” as she was heading to the backyard hot tub.
Luki’s “Liquid Sunshine” Sunday
While his teammate Wierer was enjoying the sun, Lukas Hofer went out for a 37 km run on Sunday and it was far from summery; just clouds and lots of “liquid sunshine.” Only one person was happy at the end of a very wet morning, Hofer’s dog who hit every puddle along the way!

Hugs for Mom from Kira
Of course, summer is all about family; those people who miss you the most during the long winter season. Ekaterina Yurlova-Percht, after heading to her parent’s home in St. Petersburg Russia at the end of the season has been unable to make it back to her home and husband in Austria. Luckily her daughter Kira is with her. Mom and daughter together and a big hug are just a perfect way to warm up on a chilly summer morning. It is all smiles as summer rolls in this week.
