A Day in the Life of… Marketa Davidova
Marketa Davidova is only 21, but her name is already well known among biathlon fans thanks to her results. She won a Gold medal in Otepaa in the pursuit after the Silver in the sprint at the IBU Youth Junior World Championships, including an impressive 15th place in the Pyeongchang Olympic Sprint. Famous also among her fellow biathletes, she won the award for the best rifle design at the end of the past season, Davidova will be one to watch during the upcoming IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto na Moravě. For this reason, she has enjoyed some time at home lately, allowing us in her life, for just one day.
Home Sweet Home
“It is always good to be home, because we don´t get many nights we can sleep in our beds. I think every athlete knows it. So, since time at home is very rare, I try to get the most out of it, but sometimes it could be tiring. This is because I´m always trying to see all my friends and do things, that I can´t do when I´m away.”
“My day during summer starts a little bit earlier than the rest of the year, because of the weather. When it is too hot outside, I wake up at about 6:30. But this does not bother me, because it starts with my most favourite part of the day: breakfast! I think I could eat breakfast all day, so I always find a way to have enough time for this meal. I like oat porridge with yoghurt and some fruit (best version is with fruits I pick up from our garden). And, of course, coffee can’t be missing.”
(I think I will never be an Instagram blogger :D but it tastes better than it looks)
Train, Study, Cook… Repeat!
Even when she is at home and trying to see friends and be a regular 21-year-old woman, Davidova has a training routine to follow.
“We start training at about 8 a.m. Most often, the plan includes some roller skiing and shooting training. I am lucky that there’s a small stadium with a shooting range near my village. But when the training is without shooting, we can go to nice long bike paths, which I enjoy greatly. After training it is lunch time, so I hurry home to cook my meal. Once it’s over, it is important to get some rest, so that is what I try to do, but it is not always easy: since I´m still a student, I must not forget that I have to do my homework too. So, when school is on, afternoons are the best time to fulfil my school duties.”
(view before training: sometimes I feel like a Christmas tree :D)
Late Afternoon Relaxation
“Afternoon trainings are mostly some easy activities: the one I like best is running around our mountains. It’s crazy, because I’ve lived here all my life, but I´m always surprised how beautiful is the nature that we have around here. So, I am always trying to explore new ways, looking for new paths and discover the secret ones. Can you imagine running in the forest only with birds songs around you? Isn’t it perfect?”

Battery Recharging with Horses
“Before dinner is horse time finally! This is by far the activity that makes my energy recharge most. This has been my hobby for 10 years already. I spent here all my free afternoons during childhood and it seems like I still do when I can. I don’t have my own horse, but I hope someday my child dream will come true!”
(never tired of this look)
Our time with Davidova may be over for this day, but she will be soon seen again with her unicorn rifle in front of the adoring Czech fans. From August 24th till the 26th, she will compete in the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto na Moravě.
