Beijing 2022 venue inspection

IBU’s high-level delegation, which included the Secretary-General, Sports Director, WC Race Director, and Head of the Technical Committee, returned from the inspection of the biathlon Olympic venue in Zhangjiakou, China. They reported that the developments at the biathlon venue and logistics-related operations for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 are going according to the plans.

Zhangjiakou National Biathlon Center, which is a part of Guyangshu Cluster during the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, is ready to host the best biathletes of the World. The main permanent stadium building is waiting for furniture. All other constructions are in place. All temporary buildings - team wax and changing cabins, rooms for volunteers, catering facilities, and TV compound with adjoint media center- are in the last phase of being set up. Furthermore, courses, stadium, and shooting range are already finished and look particularly impressive when illuminated with state-of-the-art LED lightings. OBS TV Director for biathlon, Michael Kögler, set all camera positions (more than 50 cameras) to bring images of biathlon around the globe.

"There are some minor adjustments needed as usual, but they are all being addressed. We are very pleased to have another new world-class biathlon venue that can host future events on the highest level. All inspection activities were done under strict COVID-19 regulations, but our BOCOG friends made our visit as pleasant and successful as possible. Beijing is ready!", summarised the inspection BMW IBU World Cup Director Borut Nunar.
