Italy wins Mixed Relay Gold in Gangwon

Team Italy claims the final Gold medal of the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon. Despite three penalty loops on the third leg, the quartet of Nayeli Mariotti Cavagnet, Carlotta Gautero, Hannes Bacher and Michel Deval prevailed in the Mixed Relay, following up on Italy's Mixed Relay victory in Lausanne.

In cold, windy conditions, no team managed to avoid the penalty loop - it was the strong performance of Cavagnet and Gautero that put Italy in an early lead from the get-go with Czechia following close behind. Triple Gold Medal winner Antonin Guy put in a spectacular performance on the last leg to lift France into the silver medal position - while Czechia wrapped up their Youth Olympics with a bronze medal finish.

“It’s a beautiful feeling to stand on the podium with my teammates in this special event here. I’m super happy with the team and to be celebrating the gold medal with them.” Hannes Bacher (ITA) - gold

“I’m very happy to get a second gold medal but this one is more important to me because I share it with my team.” Carlotta Gautero (ITA) - gold

France, Italy and Czechia also are the top 3 nations on the biathlon medal table in Gangwon 2024.

The next competitions for the Junior athletes are in Jakuszyce (POL) with two weeks of competitions before the Youth and Junior athletes head to Otepää (EST) at the end of February for the Youth Junior World Championships.
