Winter Regional Events Reach Record in Youth and Junior Participation

The Winter Regional Event season 2025/2026 delivered a new participation record in youth and junior participation, underlining the continued growth and engagement of National Federations across the development pathway. The overall number of participants reached 3,775 youth and junior athletes, representing an impressive 41% increase compared to winter 2024/2025. A total of 38 National Federations participated in 23 events, and the calendar featured five additional events compared to the previous season. The organizers were fortunate throughout the winter, with only one event cancelled.

Qualification points for juniors and seniors were introduced for the first time this season in certain Regional Events, further strengthening the competitive structure and athlete development pathway. The IBU selected eligible events for the qualification points system based on IBU event rules and result quality. The 2025/2026 winter served as a transition season, laying the foundation for further development in 2026/2027.

Full results of all Winter Regional Events are available in the IBU Datacenter. The season’s growth demonstrates continued momentum in youth and junior biathlon development and reflects the strong commitment of National Federations, organisers, coaches, and athletes across all regions.
