Regional Event season has already reached its halfway point

The end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 have delivered an action-packed biathlon winter across six regions, with athletes from numerous nations competing in a series of Regional Events. All events have taken place as scheduled, with almost 2,500 youth and junior athletes participating in Regional Events across six regions so far this season — a strong demonstration of the depth, development, and growing enthusiasm for biathlon worldwide.

North Europe Five events have already been successfully staged in Finland, Norway, Sweden and Latvia. With consistently good winter conditions throughout the region, more than 700 athletes have competed so far. Participants were treated to excellent snow conditions, allowing for fair and high-quality competitions that highlighted both technical skills and skiing performance.

Europe – Alpen Cup The Alpen Cup series has featured three events in Slovenia, Austria and Germany, attracting over 750 participants in highly successful competitions. A well-coordinated effort by event organisers, referees and dedicated volunteers contributed significantly to the smooth delivery of the events. The Alpen Cup once again showcased strong performances across all categories, setting high expectations for the remainder of the season.

Central Europe Events in Czechia and Slovakia brought together more than 550 athletes, further strengthening regional competition. The events provided valuable racing opportunities and reinforced cooperation between neighbouring federations.

North America Two events were organised in the United States and Canada, with more than 100 youth and junior participants competing. Though smaller in size, the competitions were very well organised and created a fantastic atmosphere for athletes, coaches and spectators alike, underlining the steady development of biathlon across the continent.

West Europe Athletes competed in France at Les Tuffes, where excellent conditions supported a strong event with over 300 participants in a single competition. Cold temperatures, well-prepared tracks and strong commitment from the organisers, together with the National Federation of France, ensured a high-quality event environment.

South Europe The first stage of the Balkan Cup kicked off with 80 athletes competing in Cheile Grădiștei, Romania, marking a promising start to the regional series in South Europe. Despite warm weather and challenging conditions, organisers did their best with creating a welcoming atmosphere for all teams.

Full results of all Regional Events are available in the IBU Datacenter.

With a successful first half of the season completed, Regional Events continue to provide valuable competition opportunities for youth and junior athletes.
