IBU Expands University Partnerships with Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen

On 19 August 2025, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) officially signed a partnership agreement with the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport in Magglingen (SFISM). The agreement was signed in Magglingen by IBU President Olle Dahlin and SFISM Rector Urs Mäder.

This new collaboration marks the fourth university partnership for the IBU, joining the ranks of:

  • The Norwegian School of Sport Science in Oslo (NOR)

  • Mid Sweden University in Östersund (SWE)

  • Academy of Physical Education in Katowice (POL)

Why Magglingen?

The SFISM is internationally recognized for its strong winter sports background and leading role in the scientific community, making it a natural partner for the IBU’s academic and research ambitions.

The IBU’s main research partner at SFISM will be Dr. Hippolyt Kempf, a respected expert in sports science and a member of the IBU’s Research Grant Working Group.

Building Stronger Research and Education Ties

The agreement reflects the IBU’s ongoing commitment to advancing biathlon through scientific research, education, and innovation. Strengthening connections with leading universities provides invaluable opportunities for knowledge exchange and long-term development within the sport.

In addition to President Dahlin, the IBU was represented in Magglingen by Dagmara Gerasimuk, Development Director, and Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy. With this new partnership, the IBU continues to expand its global academic network, reinforcing biathlon’s position at the intersection of elite sport, science, and education.
