Biathlon Integrity Unit

The Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU) is operationally independent from the governing body of Biathlon and is managed by the Head of the BIU who reports to the Integrity Board.

The purpose of the BIU is to protect the integrity of Biathlon from all forms of corrupt practice, including performance enhancement through doping and betting-related activities.

The remit of the BIU is to combat the threat of corruption, primarily through prevention, investigation and prosecution.

Job description and requirements

The BIU is seeking to increase its education delivery capability, whilst also establishing a robust safeguarding culture across the sport of Biathlon. To achieve this, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a solid background in education and some knowledge of safeguarding strategies.

The Education and Safeguarding Officer will:

• Provide information services, relating to all aspects of our work to our stakeholders including for example Athletes, National Federations.

• Delivery of educational courses, programs and meetings for both online and in-person audiences.

• Organize and conduct meetings that develop educational objectives for both online and in-person audiences.

• Ensure educational programs meet with standards and quality of performance as directed by the Head of the BIU.

• Develop plans and education resources for education services.

• Deliver high-quality education through talks, seminars, courses, meetings and demonstrations.

• When required, act as the first point of contact for safeguarding matters.

• Work closely with investigators in developing information relating to safeguarding issues.

• Work closely with colleagues, in particular the International Biathlon Unions, Development Department, to identify current and future safeguarding, learning and development needs to devise and implement an action plan.

• Be based at the BIU Office in Salzburg with opportunities for working from home / remote working.

BIU Education and Safeguarding Officer must have:

• Relevant experience in the field of learning and development.

• Knowledge and interest in a sports-related environment.

• Excellent working knowledge of training and development solutions.

• An awareness of individual learning styles and the importance of catering for these when providing learning and development opportunities.

• Ability to identify training needs, develop and implement training strategies and evaluate learning outcomes.

• Ability to source and create bespoke and innovative learning and development opportunities based on the needs of the Biathlon Family.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Excellent verbal and written English.

• Ability to work collaboratively to build and facilitate strong internal and external relationships.

• Able to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

• Attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.

• Good organisational, planning and time management skills.

• University Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in an area related to Education, Physical Education Development or Sports Studies or related field; a Master’s Degree would be desirable

Ideally have:

• Knowledge and experience around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Safeguarding (training in these areas will be provided).

• Another language, particular German would be beneficial

This role will involve overseas travel and work, during evenings and weekends, therefore a flexible approach will be required.

• Core working hours: 38.5 hours per week

• 25 days annual leave plus Austrian public holidays

Selection process and vetting procedure:

The selection process will include one or more interviews, to be held in person and/or remotely at a time to be specified.

To be selected for the role, a candidate must be ‘Eligible’, as defined in Article 26.2 of the IBU Constitution. The Vetting Panel (made up of the three independent members of the BIU Board) will determine whether the candidates are ‘Eligible’ following a vetting process (as set out in Article 27 of the IBU Constitution, and in the Vetting Rules). Candidates (if selected) will be required to submit a duly completed ‘Vetting Disclosure Form’ for this purpose.
