IBU nominated for BBC Green Sport Awards 2023

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) is pleased to announce that it has been nominated for the BBC Green Sport Awards 2023 in the Elite Sport Organisation category.

The BBC Green Sport Awards were created to celebrate the good news - the athletes, former athletes and organisations working hard to enact and inspire change.

The Elite Sport Organisation category is designed to highlight the work done by high-performance sports organisations to proactively demonstrate support for environmental and climate change issues in the past 12 months.

The nominated Elite Sport Organisations represent the crown jewels of sustainability work in sport, with Forest Green Rovers Football Club, Formula E, the ATP Tour and the Austrian Rules Football Club from Richmond, Victoria, receiving the accolades along with the IBU.

The Award winners will be announced on 2 October in a celebration held following the General Assembly of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework signatories at the BBC Broadcasting House in London.

In 2023, awards will be presented in a total of five categories: Athlete of the Year, Young Athlete of the Year, Evergreen Athlete 2023 for lifetime achievement, Elite Organisation of the Year, and Grassroots Organisation of the Year

The initial nominations for award recipients were based on recommendations received by the BBC from British and international experts of sports people and sports organisations demonstrating significant environmental consciousness and actions in the past 12 months. These names were then submitted to a shortlisting panel and the BBC Green Sport Awards team and finally to a panel of independent experts in climate and environment issues from inside and outside the BBC to select the winners.
