IBU and IAT Leizpig sign Partnership Agreement

The IBU and the Institute of Applied Training Science (IAT) Leipzig have officially entered into a partnership agreement, signed on 9 January in Leipzig. The agreement was signed by IBU President Olle Dahlin and IAT Sport Director Marc-Oliver Löw, marking an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two institutions. The partnership focuses on collaboration across a range of scientific projects and educational initiatives. A key element of the agreement is the further development of education within biathlon, particularly through the IBU Academy. The IAT Leipzig is already supporting the IBU Academy by providing expert lecturers for the Coach Education Programme, and this cooperation is set to expand further in the coming years.

IBU President Olle Dahlin highlighted the value of the new partnership: “I was impressed by the opportunities they have at the IAT Leipzig. They are a very strong partner which will help us to move forward with our development goals.”

Gerold Sattlecker, Head of the IBU Academy, also underlined the importance of the collaboration: “The IAT Leipzig is an institute which is internationally well-known for high-level research and diagnostics. We are happy to have them as an official partner now.”

With this agreement, the IAT Leipzig becomes the IBU’s fifth academic partner. The IBU already cooperates with the Mid Sweden University in Östersund (SWE), the Norwegian School of Sport Science in Oslo (NOR), the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice (POL), and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport in Magglingen (SUI).

IAT Sport Director Marc-Oliver Löw said: "This agreement enables us to apply our sports science expertise even more effectively to the international development of biathlon. At the same time, we benefit from access to international research networks and current competition data."

The expanded academic network reflects the IBU’s ongoing commitment to innovation, research, and high-quality education, supporting the long-term development of biathlon at all levels.
