Five Burning Questions for Martin Ponsiluoma

Before this past weekend, 2026 was already a pretty spectacular year for Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma. He won the Olympic Pursuit Gold medal and will become a father with partner Hanna Oeberg. Now ran the table at Loop One, winning both qualifying competitions and completing his sweep with victories in Saturday and Sunday’s Super Sprints. On the way to his four victories, the Swedish star hit an outstanding 54-of-60 shots.

After topping the podium for the second consecutive day, he answered our five burning questions about his big weekend and revealed his best memory of summer.

Biathlonworld: After yesterday, did you think a double was possible against this tough of a field?

Martin Ponsiluoma: I thought it would be really hard. I am really happy with the result today. I was a little bit tired in the morning, but in the race I felt really good again, so I am happy.

BW: Did you feel like you were ready for results like this during training last week?

MP: Not this good. I knew I did a really good job all summer. The shooting has been better than before and the skiing shape is good, I am mostly proud about the shooting this weekend. That gives me a lot of confidence for the winter.

BW: What was going through you mind after the two prone misses?

MP: Not much actually! In these easy tracks no one wants to go in the front so you can catch then if you have some misses in the beginning. In the end you have to shoot clean. I made ten perfect shots that made me super happy.

BW: Did this big crowd at Olympiapark give you a little bit more energy to stay ahead of Vetle on that last loop?

MP: For sure, I heard the crowd the whole way around; it was crazy!

BW: Skiing has always been your strongest point, so what have you done this summer to take your shooting to another level?

MP: Actually, I did not do anything special. I tried to enjoy it more and relax a little bit more. It seemed to work out, so I will take it a little bit easier on myself. That is the key!

Biathlonworld Bonus: Besides finding out you would be a father, what is your best memory from this summer?

MP: It has been a good summer so it is hard to say, but for sure, these races are right up at the top!

With five weeks before the LaVita IBU World Cup season opens in Kontiolahti, Martin Ponsiluoma looks ready to add a few more highlights before the year turns to 2027.
