The DAV Ulm won the Trophy with various sustainability initiatives like upgrading their floodlight system to energy-efficient LED lighting, reducing their energy consumption Additionally, the club provided buses to transport the entire team to competitions, minimizing individual travel and reducing CO2 emissions. They also implemented a rainwater collection system to supply water for their snowmaking operations, further reducing their environmental impact.
Together with Viessmann, Laura Dahlmeier visited DAV Ulm to see firsthand how the club is using the prize money. They met Viessmann Junior Athlete and the club's talent Julia Tannheimer, who provided insights into their latest project and gave a tour of the venue.
The facilities are already powered by a Viessmann heat pump, proving a sustainable heating solution. In a perfect addition to this, the DAV Ulm used the €24.000 price money for the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of their facility. This PV system is complemented by a battery storage solution, allowing the club to generate and store renewable energy efficiently. The energy generated by the PV system is used to power the floodlights for the running tracks during winter, further reducing the club's footprint and increasing its self-sufficiency.
DAV Ulm's efforts demonstrate how sports organizations can lead the way in sustainability, setting an example for others to follow. By reinvesting in their club and facilities, DAV Ulm wants to support and encourage young athletes on their biathlon journey while promoting a greener future.
