Martin Fourcade elected to IOC Athletes' Commission

Five-time Olympic champion and thirteen-time biathlon World Champion, Martin Fourcade, was elected by his fellow Olympians to serve on the IOC Athletes’ Commission (AC). He was elected alongside Frida Hansdotter (SWE) after athletes competing at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 voted to select two representatives from the 16 candidates standing.

IBU President Olle Dahlin added:

“On behalf of the whole biathlon family, we send our congratulations to Martin on his election to the IOC Athletes’ Commission. It is a great honour to be elected to this prestigious position by his fellow athletes and shows the trust they have in him.

“Martin has excellent experience in representing athletes both on the Athletes Commissions of the IBU and Paris 2024 and I am sure he will do an excellent job now representing Olympians at large. He has always been a man of great strength and integrity and has never shied away from standing up for what he believes is right for him and his fellow athletes. We wish him the very best in his new role.”

Fourcade and Hansdotter will fill the positions left by another biathlon legend, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, who resigned from the IOC AC in 2016, and Canada’s former Ice Hockey player, Hayley Wickenheiser, whose term finished at the end of Beijing 2022.
