Lisa Theresa Hauser first gained prominence when she won Austria’s first-ever women’s medals, Silver and Bronze at the 2013 IBU Junior World Championships in Obertilliach. Those, plus two more Silver and Bronze at the IBU Open European Championships the same year vaulted her to the Austrian World Cup squad the next season, which has become her biathlon home.
Over the intervening years, she became well-known for her shooting prowess, consistently closing around 87% of her targets. That shooting skill vaulted her into the top 30 women every season since 2015. Her biggest successes came in the single mixed relay where, along with teammate Simon Eder, the duo had eight podiums including two victories.
Everything changed for Hauser when the calendar turned to 2021, when she picked up her first-ever podium with third in the Oberhof sprint. That set her up for a stunningly successful 2021 IBU World Championships. She won her first IBU WCH medal, Silver in the mixed relay, followed that with pursuit Silver and capped her exploits by claiming the Gold medal in the women’s mass start. The lady who started the season with not a podium to her name ended it with an IBU World Championship title. The whole season but especially the handful of IBU WCH medals were beyond the 27-year-old’s wildest dreams. “It was amazing. I had a really good season before the World Championships with my first podiums in Oberhof and my first World Cup victory in Antholz. The Pokljuka World Championships were more than my goal before the season: to reach the podium and I did that in January.”
The 27-year old Hauser was born in and lives in Reith bei Kitzbühel where she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and going to the cinema.
