Simon Desthieux is a gold medalist in the individual from the IBU Y/J World Championships 2011 in Nove Mesto na Morave. He made his debut in the BMW IBU World Cup in the 2012/2013 season as one of the French biathletes who grew up alongside Martin Fourcade. His progress has always been steady, built on great perseverance, dedication and incremental improvements. The last three seasons in the BMW IBU World Cup cemented his status among the best, for he finished eighth in the Total Score standings in the 2017/2018 season, fourth in 2018/2019 and sixth in 2019/2020. In the 2019/2020 season he collected three podiums, a career best. He was a member of the gold medal-winning mixed relay team at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. He was part of the men’s relay team that won gold at the IBU World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva 2020 after a 19-year wait for France. He also won World Championship silver in the men’s relay in Hochfilzen 2017.

Simon is known for his friendly manners and as somebody who constantly aims for the podium but still considers himself an outsider when compared to the very best.
