New Season: New App, New Web

Just before the new biathlon season kicks off, the International Biathlon Union has today launched its new digital platforms: the first-ever official IBU App for iOS and Android and a brand new www.biathlonworld.com website.

The Official IBU App, which is available in the Apple and Google Play Store from today, will ensure that you never miss a shot again of your favourite athletes. You will receive live updates from every single IBU competition, be able to follow your favourite athletes and teams, or browse competition statistics and athletes’ profiles in this must-have App.

This App puts the full biathlon experience at your fingertips:

Real-time updates of every IBU competition, results & standings of all IBU competition series as well as Calendar & competition schedule. You can personalise your experience and follow your favourite biathletes, including in-depth athletes profiles including statistics, performance data, bios & more.

The IBU has also refreshed its www.biathlonworld.com website. You can follow competitions live through the integration of live data and stats. In addition, you will have access to news and insights to the world of biathlon and your favourite teams and biathletes. Sign-up for notifications and newsletters to make sure they never miss any of the biathlon action. Olle Dahlin, IBU President, said:

“The digital landscape is increasingly dynamic and so is the way new generations of fans are consuming sports and following their stars. As an international federation we need to be ready to embrace these changes to stay relevant but also to make the fan-sport relationship future-proof. The introduction of these new platforms is a first step to guarantee a digital accessibility for our fans, especially the younger target groups. We will keep working with our partners to make sure that the IBU provides innovative solutions for the digital challenges of the future.”

Christian Winkler, IBU Communications Director, said:

“It is exciting to launch the new platforms, which we have developed together with our fans who have been part of the validation process all along. We will grow engagement with our fans by allowing them to personalise the live experience and insights they view. The great visualisation of real-time data during our competitions including live athlete statistics will enhance the storytelling of our thrilling sport and attract new and existing fans alike. This is just the beginning of our journey and we are looking forward to include our stakeholders, especially our organising committees, more in the upcoming seasons.”

Vincit Plc, the Finnish digital transformation and software development company, is the IBU's main partner for the project responsible for the whole design and development process end-to-end and for maintenance of these services.

The launch of the new platforms comes as part of the IBU’s strategic plan Target 26, which mandates the IBU to extend its reach and to innovate its future through an integrated digital ecosystem. After having developed a digital strategy for the sport in 2020, the IBU and Vincit developed the digital platforms over the last nine months. Further releases and updates are planned in line with the IBU’s digital strategy to increase collaboration in the digital area and increase value for the whole biathlon family.
