The IBU Executive Board has approved the Dual Career Policy. The IBU aims to promote and support the athletes' preparation for their life after the biathlon career in terms of education and/or work. The goal is to raise awareness and to create opportunities for athletes to combine elite sport and education/work flexibly, without compromising either objective.
“Our goal is to motivate our athletes to think about their career after biathlon. For this reason, the IBU will create educational programs and scholarships within the IBU Academy. Building a platform of information exchange about dual-career options is another objective of this project”, said IBU Education Manager Gerold Sattlecker.
Based on this policy, the next steps are to create the Dual Career Strategy and Action Plan. In this connection, the former biathlete Anna Kitzbichler, who wrote her master thesis on the topic “dual career in biathlon”, and the Athletes´ Committee will support the IBU with the implementation. The IBU also plans to cooperate with several Universities worldwide to arrange special offers for biathletes.PDF of the IBU Dual Career Policy
