Laura Dahlmeier suffers severe mountaineering accident in Pakistan

Former Olympic and World Champion Laura Dahlmeier suffered a severe accident during a mountaineering trip in Pakistan, German broadcaster ZDF reports. Her management confirmed that the German has been severely injured.

Dahlmeier's accident occured in the Karakorum mountains in Pakistan. An international rescue team is currently coordinating the rescue operations. Her management told ZDF:

Laura Dahlmeier was climbing with her mountaineering partner on July 28 when she was caught in a rockfall. The accident took place around noon local time at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters. Her partner immediately called emergency services, and a rescue operation began immediately. Due to the remoteness of the area, a helicopter was only able to reach the site of the accident on the morning of July 29."

The IBU and the entire biathlon family is thinking of Dahlmeier and her family, hoping for good news to emerge soon.
