Head 2 Head
Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen finished a career-best 10th in the BMW IBU World Cup Total Score standings in the 2019/2020 season. He made his debut at the highest level of world biathlon in the 2012/2013 season, a year after he won a silver medal in the pursuit at the IBU Y/J World Championships in Kontiolahti 2012. Vetle then had many setbacks due to injuries which he only fully put aside before the 2017/2018 season when he won the big globe in the IBU Cup. That proved to be the turning point in his career, for he claimed his first World Cup podium with third place in the Hochfilzen pursuit in the 2018/2019 season. He built on that success with second place in the short individual in Canmore, his first-ever win in the sprint in Soldier Hollow and second place in the pursuit in Soldier Hollow. Christiansen was also a member of the Norwegian gold-winning men’s and mixed relay teams at the IBU World Championships in Oestersund 2019. He added a silver in the men’s relay in Antholz-Anterselva 2020 to that collection.
Vetle is known for his powerful style of competing, outspoken character, wittiness in his communications with the media and very refreshing self-irony.
