*23-year-old Laura Dahlmeier is the shining star of the German women’s team after winning five medals in the 2016 IBU World Championships including her first individual Gold medal in the pursuit. Dahlmeier burst onto the biathlon scene at age 17 with two Bronze medals at the 2011 IBU YJWCH, capping her junior career the 2013 YJWCH with three Gold medals and one Silver medal. She quickly moved to the World Cup, gaining valuable experience and competing in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. In the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons, Dahlmeier finished in the top 10 in 36 of her 40 World Cup starts. In that time, she was on the podium 29 times (including relays), with 13 victories. Dahlmeier has continued to add to her legacy with each season since then. Frequently beset with illness and injuries, one of Dahlmeier’s goals is for 2016-17 was to compete in every competition. She opened her 2016-17 campaign with second place in the Östersund mixed relay followed by a victory in the women’s 20K individual. From that point on, there was no stopping her, she continued piling up victories, capped by a record-setting five Gold medals and one Silver medal at the 2017 IBU WCH. When the season ended, she had also won the World Cup total Score big Crystal Globe plus two discipline small globes. *
The 2017-18 season was focused on the Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games. At those Games, she won Gold medals in the sprint and pursuit on consecutive days, followed by Bronze in the 15K individual. Her resume now includes 21 individual victories and 31 total individual podiums plus another 18 relay and mixed relay podiums (12 victories).

If you were a coach, what would you tell Laura Dahlmeier that she should improve?
I think she should be more focused on biathlon most of the time, but she should also go out in the mountains with her friends.
You are nervous before a competition; what do you do to calm down?
I like to go out to the woods, close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then I open my eyes and know everything will be okay and I can manage it.
What is the first thing you do every day?
I open my eyes!
What is your favorite: rollerskiing, running or cycling?
Running; always and everywhere
Would you rather cook at home or eat in a restaurant?
Cooking at home; we spend so much of the year away from home eating in hotels.
