International Biathlon Union signs a Unique Climate Pact

The IBU is pleased to join the Winter Sports Sustainability Network (WSN) as an Organisational Member and become a co-signatory of the Climate Pact. The IBU warmly welcomes the Pact which signifies a unified commitment to accelerate climate action from within the winter sports industry by ski, binding, and boot brands which include several of the IBU’s long-term supplying partners.

The snow sports industry is directly affected by climate change and the IBU is committed to leveraging its position as the leader of the global Biathlon Family to create awareness and promote systemic change. As part of its ten-year Sustainability Strategy 2020-2030 and as a long-time signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action framework and the Race to Zero campaign, the IBU has already committed to climate action in alignment with the Paris Agreement’s objectives.

The Climate Pact among key industry players is a substantial step forward for winter sports, and well positioned to serve as a catalyst for further momentum and concrete action by an ever-growing number of industry stakeholders.

By signing the Climate Pact, the industry publicly formalises its commitment to addressing climate change and achieving a net-zero carbon emissions future. For this purpose, the work will be carried out along the following five principles:

• Focusing

efforts on the required greenhouse gas emission reductions, to keep global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement.

• Progressing

climate commitment by joining the UN Race to Zero Campaign before end of 2024, with validated climate targets through internationally verified climate initiatives.

• Guiding

the industry forward in collaborative action, where the more ‘climate advanced’ companies support and guide their less advanced peers.

• Leveraging

influence to drive systemic change by advocating for progressive state, national and international climate policy.

• Recognising

how our industry contributes to the climate crisis, and publicly addressing climate change as a top management priority for our business.

The industry climate pact is signed by the following member brands:

Atomic, Black Crows, Blizzard, Burton, Capita, Dalbello, Decathlon, Elan, Fischer, Jones Snowboards, International Biathlon Union, K2, Kästle, Marker, OneWay, Rossignol, Salomon, Stöckli, Tecnica, The Nidecker Group, Völkl.
