IBU extends the contract with Siwidata

The IBU is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with long-term partner Siwidata as the IBU’s official provider of electronic sports timing and results, and data services. From the 2022/2023 season, Siwidata will also serve as the IBU’s provider of accreditation services.

“We are very happy to renew our long and fruitful partnership with Siwidata,” said IBU Secretary General Niklas Carlsson. “In today’s digital age, results and data have become currency in themselves. With Siwidata’s expertise, the IBU, its stakeholders and biathlon fans are guaranteed reliable, correct and innovative data collection and delivery which adds to the excitement and thrill of our sport. We are also grateful to have them on board to run our accreditation services.”

Siwidata started its cooperation with the IBU in 1999 and has developed significantly since then to employ dozens of people and uses the skills of many more freelancers from its headquarters in Merano, Italy.

“We are delighted to continue our working relationship with the International Biathlon Union, which extends over 20 years,” said Mr. Christian Winkler, founder and executive director of Siwidata. “What started almost as a hobby has developed into a highly sophisticated business. We evolved together with biathlon and the IBU, implementing new technologies as the changes in the sport demanded.”

In-house software developed by Siwidata has also been powering accreditation operations (managed by Plaras until the end of the 2021/2022 season) for the past ten years. With the start of the preparations for the 2022/2023 season, Siwidata took over operational tasks and project management of accreditation services. Planned improvements in this area will simplify the workflow and guarantee that athletes, IBU officials, and other IBU stakeholders will get the usual high standard of accreditation service.
