Job Opening: IBU CEO/Secretary General

The International Biathlon Union has started the hiring process for a CEO/Secretary General. This is a marketing and media-oriented senior leadership role with focus on sport, reporting to the President and the Executive Board, and leading the IBU Management Team.

The CEO/Secretary General is responsible for the operational leadership of the IBU under the strategic direction of the IBU Congress and the IBU Executive Board. This role provides high-level leadership, strategic advice, and direction to ensure the IBU is delivering on its goals and objectives. The CEO/Secretary General also has the responsibility to ensure that the three underlying principles of the IBU – Governance, Sustainability, and Integrity - continue to be implemented.

The position is based at the IBU Headquarters in Anif b. Salzburg/AUT.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for IBU activities towards the IBU Executive Board (EB), and fulfilment of EB and Congress decisions

  • Administration of IBU EB meetings and the IBU Congress

  • Leadership for the IBU Management Team and IBU staff: Coordination between IBU departments

  • Overall management and budget responsibility

  • Liaison with the Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU)

  • Marketing & Media: Development of market value, the IBU brand, media and marketing rights including digital

  • Execution of Strategic Plan and delivery of Action Plans

  • International relations (IOC, IFs, etc.)

  • Implementation of sustainability regarding sport, climate, venue & event, people, and communication & awareness

Knowledge & Experience

  • Hold a relevant academic qualification

  • Knowledge of and experience with international sport organisations

  • Demonstrated understanding of operational arrangements in sport, including governance frameworks, integrity frameworks, policies, and structures

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively as well as an understanding of and ability to influence stakeholders within the complex sporting environment

  • Ability to operate within a dispersed organisation comprising multiple constituencies and stakeholders

  • Be an effective communicator and negotiator

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team and have an outstanding work ethic
