Coach Webinar Olympic Cycle: Milano-Cortina 2026

On the 7th and 8th of September, the IBU organized the next edition of its Coach Webinars. The topic was "Olympic Cycle: Milano-Cortina 2026". Well-known experts and experienced coaches shared their knowledge about training planning, adaptation, peaking, high-altitude training, and major event preparation.

More than 450 coaches, athletes, and NF staff members registered for this webinar, and 300 of them were online to listen to the presentations. On the first day, Hannes Kock from the IAT Leipzig talked about training periodization in German biathlon. Prof. Oyvind Sandbakk (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NOR) and Prof. Stephen Seiler (University of Agder, NOR) presented current knowledge on long-term performance development and physiological adaptations in endurance sports. Dr Iñigo Mujika (Sports Scientist, ESP) gave relevant insights into training and competing in high-altitude. The final speaker of day one was Anne Grethe Jeppesen (Performance Coach, NOR) who spoke about training and race preparation for the shooting.

On the second day of the webinar, 5 experienced coaches shared their wide knowledge about biathlon training. Tobias Reiter and Michael Veith (both NF Germany) presented their long-term concept regarding the skiing technique. Trond Nystad (NOR) focused on the peaking of the skiing performance, Siegfried Mazet (NF Norway) on the periodization in the shooting, and Stephane Bouthiaux (NF France) on the preparation of Team France for the Olympics in Beijing.

"It was a great pleasure for the IBU to have such excellent speakers in our webinar. The great interest of the audience shows that this topic is extremely relevant for athletes and coaches", said IBU Education Manager Gerold Sattlecker. For the upcoming year, the IBU plans to have two coach webinars. The main topics will be shooting and recovery & prevention.
