Tim Farcnik unanimously elected IBU President alongside new Executive Board

Tim Farcnik (SLO) was unanimously elected IBU President today by the IBU Congress in Berchtesgaden (GER) alongside a new Executive Board and Technical Committee.

President Farcnik was running unopposed and will serve a four-year term, succeeding Olle Dahlin. He is joined by Sofia Domeij (SWE), who was elected to the position of IBU Vice President and Christian Scherer (AUT), who was re-elected IBU Treasurer.

The newly elected members of the Executive Board are:

  • Tore BOYGARD (Norway)

  • Atanas Ivanov FURNADSHIEV (Bulgaria)

  • Tarmo KARSNA (Estonia)

  • Nathalie SANTER (Italy)

  • Stefan SCHWARZBACH (Germany)

  • Tamara WOLF (Switzerland)

Further Members of the Executive Board are Simon Eder (Representative of the IBU Athletes' Committee) and Secretary General Max Cobb (ex officio member without voting rights).

Speaking following his election, President Farcnik said:

It is a great honour to be elected IBU President. I thank the biathlon family for their trust and assure them of my total commitment to serving our sport and our athletes.

Thanks to the work of President Dahlin, the former Executive Board, and everyone in the biathlon family, our sport is in an incredibly strong position. Now it is time to build on that position, making biathlon even more competitive, modernising and innovating our events, and unlocking greater commercial opportunities, all while ensuring that governance, integrity and sustainability underpin everything we do. I am hugely excited for what lies ahead. Together with our stakeholders, we can push even further and be even bolder in our ambitions for what biathlon can achieve.

The Congress also elected the Technical Committee:

  • Knut Kuvas BREVIK (Norway)

  • Fabrizio CURTAZ (Italy)

  • Selina GASPARIN (Switzerland)

  • Ulrika OEBERG (Sweden)

  • Sara STUDEBAKER-HALL (USA)

  • Emoke SZOCS (Hungary)

  • Kimmo TURUNEN (Finland)

  • Christophe VASSALLO (France)

  • Hillar ZAHKNA (Estonia)

  • Michal ZICHACEK (Czechia)

The IBU Congress continues this afternoon and will see the proposal of a number of honours, including former President Olle Dahlin as Honorary President.

The next IBU Ordinary Congress 2028 will take place in Windsor, Great Britain, as elected by the Congress.
