Estonian Biathlete Talihärm elected to IOC Athletes' Commission

Four-time Olympian biathlete Johanna Talihärm has been elected to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission, following a vote of athletes competing at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Estonian Talihärm was elected alongside Yunjong Won (Republic of Korea, bobsleigh), with 2,393 athletes casting their vote across the six Olympic Villages. The turnout of 83.4% is the second-highest ever recorded at the Olympic Winter Games.

Talihärm joins biathlon legend Martin Fourcade, who was elected in 2022, on the Commission and will serve an eight-year term until Utah 2034. She will be proposed for election as an IOC Member at the final day of the 145th IOC Session on Sunday in Milano.

Talihärm said: "I want to thank all the athletes for their trust. I promise to all the athletes that I will be your voice, and I will represent you well. I would also like to thank the Estonian NOC, the EOC, the IBU and everyone in my corner, this would not have been possible without you. The Olympic Movement is at its best when athletes are at the heart of decision-making, and that is exactly where I intend to be.”

IBU President Olle Dahlin said: "Congratulations to Johanna on this tremendous achievement. To be elected to the IOC Athletes' Commission by your fellow Olympians is a huge endorsement of an athletes’ character and their standing among their peers. Johanna has spent years advocating for her fellow athletes and we are proud to see biathlon represented at the very heart of the Olympic Movement."

A four-time Olympian, having competed at Sochi 2014, PyeongChang 2018, Beijing 2022 and in three competitions at Milano Cortina 2026 over the past two weeks, Talihärm has 226 World Cup starts since her debut in 2012. She has served as European Olympic Committees (EOC) liaison to the IOC Athletes' Commission since 2023 and was elected as Chair of the EOC Athletes' Commission in November 2025.
