IBU unveils 2026/2027 Para Biathlon calendar with World Championships in Pokljuka

The IBU has confirmed the schedule for the 2026/2027 Para Biathlon season, setting the stage for another winter of high-performance competitions following the momentum of the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

The upcoming season will feature three Para Biathlon World Cup stages, with the IBU Para Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia as a culmination.

Three World Cup stops

The season begins in Vuokatti, Finland, from 7–12 December 2026, where athletes from all classes will compete in sprint, sprint pursuit and individual events.

After the opening, the circuit moves south to Martell, Italy, from 18–24 January 2027. The Italian venue will host sprint, sprint pursuit and middle-distance competitions.

The final World Cup stage—and season finale—will take place in Torsby, Sweden, from 8–14 March 2027, where overall titles are expected to be decided.

Season highlight: Pokljuka World Championships

Between the second and third World Cup weeks, from 22–28 February, the spotlight will shift to Pokljuka, Slovenia, which hosts the IBU Para Biathlon World Championships 2027.

The Championships programme includes individual, sprint, sprint pursuit and team sprint competitions, bringing together the world’s best para biathletes to compete for global titles.

Pokljuka returns as a host venue after staging the Championships in 2025, reinforcing its role as a key location in the Para Biathlon calendar.

Building on Paralympic momentum

The 2026/2027 season is designed to build on the visibility and competitive progress achieved during the Paralympic cycle that just concluded. With a balanced calendar of World Cup stages and a major championship event, the upcoming season promises intense competition and continued development for Para Biathlon on the international stage.
