After a long season, what is better than coming home and spending time with family and friends? We wanted to know the athletes' favourite spots in their hometowns. From sunrise hikes with breakfast to historic old towns, which one of them would you visit?
Selina Grotian - Views over Mittenwald
"For me it is of course Karwendel! Whether hiking up or going up with the cable car you have a wonderful view over Mittenwald, my hometown."
Just to add to Selina's enthusiasm for Karwendel: it is a rugged, scenic mountain range straddling the Austria-Germany border, mostly in Tyrol, Austria, and Bavaria, Germany, renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. In short, a paradise for daring outdoor adventurers.
Lena Repinc - A day trip in Slovenia
"First, I would take my guest on a sunrise hike up to Mount Pršivec. It’s never crowded up there, and you get one of the nicest views over Bohinj Lake. I love sunrises, so that’s why it’s a sunrise hike. And of course, I would pack some pancakes and my nona’s homemade jam for the best breakfast experience.
From Pršivec, I would take them to Planina pri Jezeru, just a “short” walk downhill. There you can buy the best herdsmen’s cheese (in my opinion). We would continue to Planina Laz and then up to Mount Debeli vrh. It’s probably my favorite peak in the area. Very few people go there because it has two peaks, and everyone usually stops at the first one (not the actual peak though). And the view is amazing!
After that, it’s just walking back down to the valley. The final stop would be by the lake, where you can relax, swim, sunbathe, and simply enjoy nature."
Boris Stanish - An Aussie experience
"Here at Mount Buller, I would take a tourist up to the Summit to watch the sunrise or sunset and listen to the Australian animals as dusk or dawn approaches. You don't get views and sounds like this anywhere else in the world!"
Ella Halvarsson - Day by the lake in Oestersund
"I would take a tourist to Badhusparken in Oestersund. It's a park just by the lake and when it is sunny weather everyone sits by a long bench and it's really beautiful! I would recommend to be there in the winter to ice skate on the lake. The city build the winter park with lots of activities. And food offerings are also great!”
Kristo Seemer - Estonian beauty
"I would definitely take a visitor to Tallinn Old Town because it's so rare and perfectly preserved. Because of its beauty, it is almost impossible to take your eyes off it! At my home, I would take them to meet my cat."
Shawna Pendry - Enjoying some cake
"I would take the tourist to see the sunrise above the mountains in Font-Romeu and have breakfast in the local patisserie 'KV patisserie' because they have the best cakes and my sister is one of the chefs there!"
