Benni on Tour: A new video series on sustainability in action within biathlon with Benjamin Doll

Former German world champion Benedikt “Benni” Doll has kicked off a new video series, Benni on Tour, with a visit to the IBU headquarters in Salzburg. In the first episode, Benni takes viewers behind the scenes at the IBU as part of a collaboration with the IBU’s long-standing Climate Partner Viessmann.

At the HQ, Benni meets IBU sustainability team and learns more about the federation’s commitment to sustainability and climate-friendly operations.

A key focus of the visit is the newly installed photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of IBU's office. The solar installation comprises 160 panels covering 320 square metres and is expected to generate up to 80,000 kWh of renewable electricity per year, significantly exceeding the building’s current annual electricity consumption. Surplus energy is fed into the public grid, contributing to emissions reduction beyond the IBU’s own operations.

The Salzburg stop marks the first episode of the Benni on Tour series, which highlights sustainability initiatives, innovation and climate action within biathlon.

In the second episode, Benni visits Thierry Langer, one of the inaugural IBU Sustainability Athlete Ambassadors from Belgium, at his home in the Freiburg im Breisgau region of Germany to inspect the renovations Thierry has recently made at his house.

With Benni on Tour, the IBU and Viessmann aim to show how sustainability can be integrated into everyday operations – starting at home, but with relevance far beyond our own walls.
