Germany's Erik Lesser had a career-best season in 2014-15. That year, he claimed the Gold medal at the IBUY WCH in Kontiolahti in the men's pursuit, then added a second Gold medal in the men's relay. He finished with a personal-best 10th place in the World Cup Total Score. Yet it was the previous Olympic season that changed his career. At the Sochi OWG, he shot clean and won the Olympic 20K Individual Silver medal; then a few days later, Lesser again was flawless on the range in his relay leadoff leg and he added a second medal Olympic Relay Silver to his trophy case.
Olympic seasons mark the end of many sports careers; 2022 was no exception to that rule. A large group of veteran biathletes hung up their rifles and skis. We say, “adieu, auf Wiedersehen, adjö, good-bye” to these members of the biathlon family with best wishes for the next chapters of their life.
