Job Opening: Sport Development Manager

The International Biathlon Union – one of the seven Olympic winter sport federations – headquartered in Anif b. Salzburg, is looking for a Sport Development Manager. We are offering a full-time job in an international setting.

Job location:

Central: IBU Headquarters Anif b. Salzburg/AUSTRIA with flexible solutions for international staff and home office rules.

Travel activities mainly during the winter season (November – March) but also in summer are expected.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Project lead/support for the development of the sport of biathlon with regards to sport innovation in line with IBU’s strategic goals and objectives:


  1. Competition series review and development: Evaluate and develop the IBU Junior Cup series; Create a regional competition programme setup (in cooperation with the Development department)

  2. Competition format review and development

  3. Youth/Junior participation and recruitment


Evaluate the needs for adaptation of sport with a view to snow security and other external challenges: SnowNetwork project; Fluor Ban implementation; Lead handling in Biathlon

  • Serve as “acting Race Director Junior Cup”:

- The sport-technical preparation, execution, and follow-up of IBU Youth and Junior events

These duties include in particular- but are not limited to - the following activities relating to the above events:

  1. lnspections of the competition venues to ensure the proper preparation of the events

  2. Ensuring compliance with the qualification criteria before the start of the event

  3. Concluding authorization of the competition venue at competition start (shooting range, course, stadium, etc.)

  4. Reporting to the HQ and connected administrative tasks

  5. Compliance with the IBU Constitution and implementation of the IBU Rules, IBU Guidelines, Event Hosting Declarations (EHDs), TV & advertising contracts, and IBU Executive Board decisions at the venue

  6. Coordination, management, and briefing of IBU officials at the event venue

  7. Support the delivery of IBU’s sustainability strategy and any related programmes such as the IBU Snow Network at all events of this series

  8. Summary report to the S&E Manager on the organisation of the event

  • Member of the IBU license inspection team in consultation with the S&E Director and responsible TC Member

  • Preparing and hosting of coach meetings each season incl. preparation of reports/minutes

  • Organisational and operational support for the IBU IOC Camps

  • The attendance at other meetings (internal & external), including the preparation of documents and reports related to the above events

  • The responsibility for other duties within the IBU Sport & Event Department which might arise

You will fit into our team if you:

  • have completed secondary school. Any higher education like a university degree etc. is not specifically required.

  • have good knowledge of MS Office software (particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • are working independently, structured, and autonomously

  • are fluent in English, orally and written (other languages advantageous)

  • are flexible in your working hours in peak times (especially during winter/biathlon season)

  • are a communicative, motivated team player with a talent for problem-solving

  • are having a proven track record in sport event organisation, biathlon-specific knowledge/experience is an asset

A gross monthly salary that is orientated on the Austrian Collective Agreement for Trade (Österreichischer Kollektivvertrag für Handel), is paid 14 times yearly. Your actual salary will reflect as well your qualifications and work experience.
