The development camps serve as a cornerstone of the IBU’s ongoing efforts to develop Para Biathlon globally, supporting new and emerging nations in building confidence in the sport. Over six days, athletes and coaches immersed themselves in practical and theoretical training sessions, learning the fundamentals of shooting, roller skiing, strength training, and biathlon-specific preparation — all under the expert guidance of IBU Coaches Rolf Nuber, Ralf Rombach (both Germany) and Eileen Carey (USA).
Reflecting on her experience, Carey commented:
The enthusiasm and dedication we saw in Notschrei show how strong the future of Para Biathlon can be. These athletes and coaches are the foundation of the sport’s next chapter — one built on inclusion, opportunity, and shared ambition. For many of the participants, this camp is the first step on an international pathway. To see them improve daily and support each other so naturally is the best part of coaching.
The participants also benefited from additional sessions led by the Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU), performance nutrition expert Adelheid Morath and the camp's coaching team, focusing on holistic long-term athlete development, sustainable training structures, and the exchange of knowledge across nations.
The program balanced hard work with fun and community — featuring team-building activities, and a strong sense of camaraderie that extended well beyond the training range.
Hosted in collaboration with the team at the Notschrei Nordic Center, the camp combined professional training facilities with the natural beauty of Germany's Black Forest. Mornings were dedicated to technique and endurance sessions, while afternoons focused on shooting accuracy, and strength development, including a camp competition on the final training day. Each evening, coaches and athletes gathered to reflect, exchange experiences, and celebrate small victories on the road to bigger goals.
Beyond skill development, the camp emphasized sustainability, collaboration, and accessibility — aligning with the IBU’s broader mission to make biathlon a truly global and inclusive sport.
As the camp concluded, athletes departed Notschrei not only stronger and more confident but also well connected to a growing international Para Biathlon community. Their progress reflects the spirit of the IBU’s development work — fostering talent, building bridges, and showing that Para Biathlon has a bright and inclusive future.
