The team — Fredrik Lindstroem, Magnus Jonsson, Carl Johan Bergman and Bjoern Ferry — was honoured following the annulment of Evgeny Ustyugov’s results due to anti-doping violations, as announced earlier this year by the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
The ceremony marked the formal recognition of Sweden as the rightful bronze medallist in the 2011 men’s relay, in which the Russian team originally finished second. Spectators and athletes gathered to witness the moment, reflecting the IBU’s commitment to ensuring fairness and integrity in biathlon. IBU President Olle Dahlin had previously emphasized the importance of restoring results to clean athletes, stating that the reallocation “provides these deserving athletes with the recognition they rightfully earned through their dedication, hard work, and commitment to fair play.”
Further medal reallocations from the IBU World Championships Biathlon 2011 include the team Ukraine, the new silver medallists for the men’s relay. The men’s 15 km mass start result has also been changed. The new silver medallist is Lukas Hofer (ITA) and the new bronze medallist is Tarjei Boe (NOR).
