After not winning a relay all season and not winning the IBU WCH title since Pokljuka in 2021, JT called today’s Gold medal performance, “A big win for us; it’s been three years. This year has been a big rivalry with France and for every relay we thought next time we will win it, but haven’t done it. We were facing the truth: the French team is the best and we had to prove them otherwise. We did it today and I am proud of the team. It was attacking from Endre to Tarjei to Sturla to me. We made the perfect job!”
A high point for JT was his fist-bump with Quentin Fillon Maillet on the last loop in a spot when they passed on opposite sides of the tracks. “I was happy he came over to give me the fist bump. I really like to challenge with Quentin. He is a good friend of mine; a beautiful victory.”
JT called his brother, “Mr. Relay.” Tarjei won an all-time record seventh IBU WCH Relay Gold today, “It’s nice to get some records, not only Johannes. It has been a long career and a lot of opportunities. It has been so many teams from Halvard Hanevold and Bjoerndalen down to Endre, new on the team.”
France won the Silver medal, with seven spare rounds. Germany, with ten spares won the Bronze medal, 1:35.4 back, their first IBU WCH Relay medal since 2020. Anchor Philipp Horn called winning this medal, "Really emotional. I was on the team five years ago. The last five years were really tough for me. I had a lot of disappointments…and (sometimes) out of the World Cup team.”
Sweden with a penalty and eleven spares finished fourth, 1:54 back. Italy and Czechia, both with nine spares finished fifth and sixth, 2:12.4 and 2:24.8 back, respectively.
Short-sleeve weather continued for the men’s competition. Stroemsheim cleaned standing quickly, taking control and tagging Tarjei 12.1 seconds before Fabien Claude.
Tarjei continued pushing the envelope, with two-spare shooting, giving Laegreid a 25-cushion over Eric Perrot at the exchange. Laegreid’s 10-for-10 stretched the lead to 47 seconds when he tagged JT.
Looking like the JT of old, he closed all ten targets confidently, running the gap to 1:03. After standing the Norwegian turned, waved to the crowd with the Gold medal secure and France taking Silver. Horn and Sebastian Samuelsson came to standing together; Horn cleaned in five shots for the Bronze, leaving Sweden fourth. JT enjoyed his last IBU WCH relay, with last loop waves and the fist-bump, crossing the finish line waving the Norwegian flag.
